Christy Phillips (@christycrossfit), 5x CrossFit Games athlete from the Mid Atlantic region, came through for a visit last week. Her weightlifting coach (2000 Olympian @caraheads) and her have been working at cleaning up some details on both the snatch and the jerk.
Christy’s challenges on the snatch were:
1. Not relocating the feet to receive the bar.
2. Trying to “flip” the bar up with her back.
3. Brushing low on the thighs.
This resulted in her snatch hovering around 135lbs.
Christy’s challenges on the jerk were:
1. Inconsistent footwork in the catch.
This resulted in her jerk hovering around 200lbs.
After watching Christy take some lifts, I decided to take her through some drills that allowed her to feel a better sense of balance in her footing and teach her how to drive better extension through her body for both lifts. The cueing was simplified to hedge any over analyzing.
The result? A 153lbs snatch and a 13lbs jerk PR at 223lbs. Legitsville.
