Now that we have established position, time to squat. Cues for performing the Back Squat:

1. Start with awareness in the legs(quadriceps). Throughout the movement, you are keeping balance over the center of the foot. Take a breathe in. This breathe will be held for the duration of the rep.

*A note on breathing:- As you take your breathe in, you want to achieve two things:.

i. Mental focus/awareness and creating a connection of the load to your quads.

ii. Establishing stability and internal pressure to support the trunk. This can be done by thinking of pulling the breathe into your belly and holding it there.

2. Begin lowering. Imagine moving like an elevator - straight down and straight up.

3. Knees should track over the second and third toe. Avoid excessively pushing the knees out to the side. If you feel like you are balanced on the outer edges of your feet, that’s a sign you are pushing out too much.
