New practitioners of weightlifting will often walk themselves up...
New practitioners of weightlifting will often walk themselves up to the bar, put their shins right against the bar and set-up with the majority of their weight sitting back in towards their heels. The outcome in this style of set-up often results in the lifter either pulling the bar around their knees, shooting the hips up first while rising, scraping the shins up during the first pull and/or being off balance over the base.
What I prefer to see, instead, is the lifter setting up with the bar more towards the forefoot and making up that distance by bringing the shins to the bar and allowing the body to sit in better over the base. This will allow for a better sense of balance and control over the overall rhythm of the movement and allow for proper usage of the legs in the initial drive off the floor.
