The “Snatch Squat Press” is a great tool to help reinforce the snatch lockout and develop positional strength in the hole. Use it prior to snatching to help prime the lockout or at the end of the workout as a strength assistance piece.

How can you tell if you have legs built for weightlifting? We call this the “HK No Hands Get-up” test.

Step 1: Smile

Step 2: Place your leg(s) underneath you

Step 3: Effortlessly, stand up

For the record, she can do this with or without weightlifting shoes. And yes, we make her do this over and over again ‘cause it is just that amazing.

Quality repetitions over lots of volume in the mid range intensities will help lock in those movement patterns. Mobility got you feeling stuck? Split cleaning/snatching could be your answer for putting Olympic-style weightlifting back on the table when other options seem limiting. My mobility challenged or even master athletes that have chronic limited range of movement will benefit largely from the increased base of support and more mid range receiving position. We also tend to see an improvement in body positioning allowing the athlete to receive with a more upright and stacked trunk.

Test drove a little gift from Inov-8 today called the Powerheel. Designed to be lightweight strap-on for your Inov-8 shoe, I decided just to pop it on my chucks for some extra attitude while lifting. It was surprisingly sturdy. So much so I set a PR hang snatch double of 143lbs/65kg. Good times.
