Understanding positions during the pull is key to being able to execute a consistent movement pattern during the lift. This consistency over time allows the body to find efficiency and develops a solid foundation to the continue building up and advancing the snatch and clean.

A game I like to play with my athletes is ‘Simon Says’. The goal being whether or not they can reproduce each position I want to see with mechanical precision and no hesitation. Spending an extra 5 minutes prior to lifting priming these points will pay dividends come time to load up the bar and go.

The clean to sotts press I posted the other week might be one of my favorite diagnostic tools, but the snatch to snatch squat press runs a very tight second. Fun to mess around with, you can highlight deficiencies producing this movement with very light weight. It also serves a great primer on snatch days to ready and activate the body for lifting and receiving weight.

I can’t say we didn’t all predict what was going to happen this week! What I am surprised with is Mr. Dave Castro changing the challenge from a time priority to a task priority piece. Well played. There’s no where to hide when you’re committed to getting it all done!

1. I’d recommend suiting up with a lightweight lifting shoe such as the Reebok CrossFit Lifters. The heel will give you an added advantage on those thrusters.

2. Tape or use wrist wraps if you feel the wrists might start to get a little smokey from catching the thrusters or dropping down on the burpees.
