If you hang out with a barbell long enough, your hand will respond by forming a nice protective layer called a callus. These calluses create a buffer between you and the object that you’re trying to manipulate. Although unsightly, it is a necessary adaptation to the fun you want to have.

Every now and then, however, you’ll have too much fun and one of the calluses will tear. Pre-wrap tape is a soft, velvety foam that can be used to cover the injury so you can continue training without interruption. What are some of your favorite callus tear remedies?

The transition of the knees during the first pull is arguably one of the most difficult positions for the beginner to negotiate. This is largely because we are at a mechanical disadvantage hinging so far out over our base. Beginners with weaker hamstrings and lower backs won’t be able to take the pressure necessary to shove the knees out of the way and subsequently will either move the bar around their knees and/or start pulling the shoulders back behind the bar too soon.
