I used to get asked a lot when I posted photos of athletes like Matt Chan and Christy Phillips lifting off a 1.5” mat, “What are they standing on and why are they standing on it?” Well, the short answer is they’re standing on a mat (I’d prefer the use of a wooden board but we haven’t gotten around to picking up any from the hardware store), and I use it to help athletes feel what staying back in the finish means.

I get asked a lot about what our club does for programming. My answer is always it depends on what block or cycle we’re on and what elements were trying to push. Snatch, clean&jerk, and squats are the staple throughout the week with accessory movements sprinkled in for flavor.

For my five day program, the heaviest days are on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday with Tuesday and Thursday being the lighter to medium level workouts.

For my four day program, the heaviest days are on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday with the lighter to medium level workout on Wednesday.
